Welcome
Welcome to the UK Sustainable Vegetable Production for Kentucky website. This site was developed to provide agriculture professionals helpful and research-based information for vegetable production in Kentucky.
The Department of Horticulture at the University of Kentucky's mission is to provide research-based information for all growers--conventional and organic--to build more sustainable agricultural enterprises. Making our farms more sustainable and efficient can include something as simple as using a resistant variety to reduce fungicide applications or altering irrigation management to reduce water usage.
This website will continue to be updated and will feature production resources for extension agents and growers as well as information relating to significant state, regional, national meetings and ongoing projects related to vegetable production being conducted within the UK College of Agriculture. The UK Sustainable Vegetable Production Program is currently managed by Dr. Timothy Coolong, but projects feature collaborations between several departments at UK, including Entomology, Plant Pathology, Plant and Soil Sciences, and Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering.
This website was developed with funds from a SARE Professional Development Grant: Developing a Training Program in Sustainable Vegetable Production for Agriculture Professionals in Kentucky and Tennessee which was a partnership between the University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University, and University of Tennessee.
